On behalf of the International Committee of the International Symposium on Scale Insect Studies – ISSIS, we cordially invite you to participate in the XIII ISSIS meeting, to be held in Sofia, Bulgaria, on September 02-05th, 2013.
The meeting will cover all aspects of scale insect studies, including systematics and morphology, genetics and evolution, zoogeography and faunistics, biology and population dynamics, natural enemies, monitoring and pest management. It is also intended to be an opportunity to bring together people dealing with coccids and to discuss the most recent research achievements in scale insect studies.
Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria, located in western part of the country, at the foot of mount Vitosha. Travel to Sofia is easy from many destinations throughout Europe and world. Sofia offers pleasant weather at the beginning of September.
During the meeting a field trip is planned to Starosel. Starosel is a small village in central Bulgaria, near the city of Plovdiv. The village of Starosel is situated in a picturesque mountain area and it is located in close proximity to many archeological monuments of the ancient Thracians. Known for its cultural landscape, Starosel is one of the most pleasant sites to visit in Bulgaria, combining interesting landscape, historical monuments and possibility to collect scale insects.
The organization is considering the possibility of organizing a post-meeting excursion (September 06-08th). The trip will include visits to Bulgarian historical villages and natural parks.
